Library Journal

The current increase in popularity of crafting with felt is somewhat surprising because felt has been around since ancient times. These two books feature projects for jewelry and accessories using felt combined with beads and stitchery. Lifelong crafter Collings provides step-by-step projects for decorations and toys, while graphic designer Hill focuses on knitted and crocheted wire and fiber projects.Copyright 2009 Library Journal, LLC Used with permission.

The use of mixed media distinguishes this delightful craft book. Although felt is certainly the base of all the projects, the items made are incredibly diverse, and the materials used even more so. Take, for instance, the vintage powder box, which uses silk flowers and broken necklaces to achieve the uniquely elegant box. Although many of the projects have a vintage flair, there are also more modern designs, especially in the section called Playthings. Other whimsically titled sections are Tickle Your Fancy, Nooks & Crannies, and Beads & Baubles. A thorough explanation of felting will be helpful to novice artisans. Any crafter will find something to tryand lovein this charming book.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2008, American Library Association.)
