Macri, who blogs at EatDrinkPaleo.com, follows an 80/20 diet: 80 percent of the time she adheres to a paleo regimen (no gluten, grains, legumes, or processed sugar) and is less strict the other 20 percent. This flexibility, she claims, keeps her from feeling deprived. Introductory sections cover the essentials of a paleo diet and what kinds of ingredients the author stocks in her kitchen. Recipes are featured in sections called "Wake Up, Baby" (breakfast), "From the Garden," "Meat," "Fish 'n' Friends," "Cheeky Treats," "Quickies" (snacks), "Make Your Own" (staples such as red curry paste and salad dressings), and "Bottoms Up." The dishes include a lasagne made with ground beef and plenty of cheese in which thinly sliced parsnips, eggplant, and zucchini stand in for the noodles; lime and cilantro butter scallops; kedgeree deviled eggs; and lychee-lemongrass sangria. VERDICT The book's modern design and attractive photographs, plus recipes that will appeal to anyone interested in consuming more vegetables and protein make this a natural choice for libraries where diet-based cookbooks circulate well.--Stephanie Klose, Library Journal
