The newest thrilling Beaumont suspense novel from New York Times bestselling author J. A. Jance, in which Beaumont is approached by a visitor from the past and finds himself drawn into a missing person's case where danger is lurking and family secrets are exposed.

Years ago, when he was a homicide detective with the Seattle PD, J. P. Beaumont's partner, Sue Danielson, was murdered. Volatile and angry, Danielson's ex-husband came after her in her home and, with nowhere else to turn, Jared, Sue's teenage son, frantically called Beau for help. As Beau rushed to the scene, he urged Jared to grab his younger brother and flee the house. In the end, Beaumont's plea and Jared's quick action saved the two boys from their father's murderous rage.

Now, almost twenty years later, Jared reappears in Beau's life seeking his help once again—his younger brother Chris is missing. Still haunted by the events of that tragic night, Beau doesn't hesitate to take on the case. Following a lead all the way to the wilds of wintertime Alaska, he encounters a tangled web of family secrets in which a killer with nothing to lose is waiting to take another life.

Don't miss out on the latest adventure of J.P. Beaumont in Nothing to Lose, the gripping new novel from bestselling author J.A. Jance.

Listeners who enjoy a classic police procedural will enjoy following retired Seattle Homicide Detective J.P. Beaumont as he travels to Alaska to discover whatever happened to the son of his murdered ex-partner. The missing person investigation turns into a search for a cold-blooded killer. Narrator Mike Ortego gives Beau the sort of hard-bitten, overtaxed voice of a pro who's seen it all and knows the ropes. While the killer is revealed early in the investigation, it is worth hearing this audiobook to see how the puzzle pieces fit together and to enjoy meeting characters like Twink, the prickly, quirky driver who becomes Beau's de facto partner. Good setting, good characters, good fun! D.L.G. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine

Bestseller Jance’s enjoyable 25th J.P. Beaumont mystery (after 2019’s Sins of the Father) finds the 74-year-old former homicide cop turned PI putting up Christmas decorations at the home he shares with his wife, Melissa, the police chief of Bellingham, Wash. He has no sooner distributed the various angels, nutcrackers, and Santas than Jared Danielson, whom he hasn’t seen in 20 years, appears at his door. Jared asks J.P. to find Chris, Jared’s brother who dropped out of sight 12 years earlier. Jared and Chris are the sons of Sue Danielson, J.P.’s partner during his time in the Seattle PD homicide unit, who was subsequently murdered by her husband. It’s Sue’s aging mother’s wish to see Chris before she dies. J.P. accepts the case and heads off for Homer, Alaska, the last place Chris was seen alive. J.P. is a fully developed character, and his frequent calls to Melissa to discuss the case are both touching and insightful. They make a good team even at a distance. New readers will happily join the ranks of longtime fans. Agent: Alice Volpe; Northwest Literary Agency.
